Considering that it’s July, hockey probably isn’t the first thing on your mind right now, unless, of course, you’re sweltering in a room without air conditioning dreaming of the cool air inside the rink. The offseason is a time for National Hockey League Teams to address their needs, and that isn’t only about the personnel who wear ice skates. Although many of the NHL Teams have major Summer internship programs, they also need interns during the hockey season. While you may be focused on baseball or the Olympics right now, you should get your mind back to hockey for a bit and try to find an internship with an NHL Team for this coming fall or spring.

Yesterday we were doing our daily scan for Fall Internships on Twitter via Summize and came across something cool. XM Satellite Radio has a Twitter account solely for its internship program. Although they only have 7 followers at the moment, XM’s interns are doing something groundbreaking – they’re live micro-blogging their internships with corporate blessing. We are impressed! That was enough to convince us to write about XM’s internships; however, we were doubly impressed when a closer look at their internships site reavealed that XM currently has 31 Fall internships listed.

I’ve been known to give people a hard time for buying Fiji Water, but then to drink it myself. I drink a lot of water, and Fiji Water is some of the best, but it seems crazy to have water shipped half way around the world when we have some of the world’s best drinking water sitting in our toilets (and coming out of our faucets too). Still, there’s something to be said for enjoying the luxury of sipping water that comes from an artesian well at the edge of a primitive rain forest. If you’re going to drink bottled water, it might as well come from Fiji. It might be as close as you’ll ever get to the place.

If you’ve been keeping up to date with our daily internship posts, you know that we’re starting to scrape the bottom of the barrel. We’re not saying that the Summer opportunities that are available in late (yes, the 22nd is late) May are necessarily of lower quality, but it’s like a Black Friday Sale – the good stuff usually goes fast (and the best internship programs usually do their hiring months in advance). Well we were shocked to come across a company called Russell Investments that is one of Fortune’s 100 Best Companies to Work For in 2008 and is still hiring Summer interns. We actually found out about these internships from the Twitter profile of Amod Damle Russell’s Manager of College Recruiting.

I’ll admit it; I’ve become a mild Twitter addict. I just keep finding internships to write about by scanning tweets and following the links that they contain. It’s getting late in the game, and harder and harder to find companies that are still looking for Summer interns, but using unorthodox methods can turn up some great results. Most recently, I found a link to a post by a Sun Microsystems employee who is looking for two interns. Her post led us to Sun’s main Careers site, which truly impressed us.

There may be no “u” in Qorvis, but there is certainly room for you. If Qorvis said something that corny, you probably wouldn’t want to work for them. Since Qorvis is a communications and public relations firm, they’re smart enough not to use slogans like the one I just came up with. Instead they rely on a nice looking Careers site and a hard to pronounce name to recruit interns.

Today, we’re going to look at Draftfcb, which happens to be the world’s third oldest ad agency (although there have been a few mergers and acquisitions inbetween). They often do contracts in the nine-figures, so they’re kind of a big deal.

We’ve written about quite a few advertising jobs on One Day, One Job, so we thought we’d start off the second week of One Day, One Internship with what is clearly a popular genre. We’ve had our eye on archer>malmo for a while. They’re a full service marketing and advertising agency located in Memphis, TN, and they’ve got internships. Their web site is really simple and only has a few pages, but we love their home page. It revolves through their portfolio and includes one sentence explanations of the campaigns as they are shown – it’s both fun and educational to just sit and watch for a while. archer>malmo was also named the 17th best small company to work for by the Great Place to Work Institute, so we know they’re going to treat you right (and they have a video to prove it, but you’ll have to read on to get the link).
